Description
A lovely little watercolour landscape of a valley of rocks near Lynton in Devon. Painted in the early part of the 20th Century this pretty painting depicts a pathway through a shallow valley down to the distant beach with the sea visible in the distance in a gap between the hills. It is framed, mounted and glazed. The frame measures 50 x 37 cm with the picture itself measuring 30 x 17 cm.
Walter Henry Sweet (British 1889 – 1943). Sweet was born and raised in Devon. He studied at Exeter School of Art and painted many scenes around his locale. During the First World War he saw action in The Devonshire Regiment. After the war he settled in Scotland, married and had two children. He died in 1943 aged only 53.
