A lovely little watercolour painting by John Callow of sailing boats approaching the harbour at Honfleur. The two sailing boats are struggling against stormy seas with the wind whipping up substantial waves. A distant church in the background dominates the skyline. The picture is mounted, framed and glazed. The frame measures 40 x 32 cm. The painting itself measures 26 x 17 cm.
John Callow NWS OWS British 1822 – 1878. A watercolour artist of some note who specialised in 19th century marine paintings. Exhibited numerous times at Old Watercolour Society, New Watercolour Society, The Royal Academy, etc.
